Term 3 - Reflection

Kowhai's Reflection
Term 3

Maths Inquiry

  1. Mixed grouping has been used for the two top groups, Diamonds and Circles as all the children were at similar stages, therefore this type of groupings could work.
  2. Individualised learning programme using Khan's Academy has worked really well for one particular student.
  3. All children have been re-tested to see if their basic facts have improved.   Results to be looked at over the holidays.
  4. Maths buddy has been working well for those children who have been using it.
  5. Two students were removed from the Spring into Maths Programme.  Two students were added to this programme.
  6. Thinking Books have been working well.  The children are now very confident in showing you what strategy they used to find their answer.  They can also explain orally how they did.  Working with a buddy to complete this is working well.  Also working with different buddies each day gives the children different perspectives on maths and how they can find an answer to a particular equation.
  7. Suzie's basic facts group has gained confidence this term and enjoy participating in the maths challenge with the rest of the class.
  8. Basic facts knowledge has increased with all children and this term I have trialed the use of basic fact practice for homework.  The children are also tested weekly on the set of timetables they are working on.  They need to get under 30 seconds before they can go onto the next set.
  9. JAM tested has been completed on the new student who arrived at Solway at the beginning of term 3.
  10. Lots of new games introduced to this term.  the children are really loving the new challenges.
  11. Have learnt that the programme needs to be varied and is always changing in order to keep the interest of the children high.
  12. Next term I am introducing a schedule where the children choose their weekly activities in the order they wish to complete them.  They need to record their daily activities ensuring that they complete two activities a day and seeing the teacher twice a week.
